Adding Test Tokens to Your MetaMask Wallet for Polygon Mumbai

For developers and users experimenting with blockchain applications, using test tokens on testnets like Polygon Mumbai is essential. This guide will walk you through obtaining test MATIC tokens from the Alchemy faucet and adding them to your MetaMask wallet.

Pre-Requisites

Step 1: Adding Polygon Mumbai Testnet to MetaMask

First, you need to add the Polygon Mumbai test network to your MetaMask wallet.

1. Open MetaMask and Access Networks

Open MetaMask and click on the network selection dropdown at the top.

2. Add Network

Select "Custom RPC" or "Add Network" at the bottom of the network list.

3. Enter Network Details

Fill in the following details for the Polygon Mumbai testnet:

  • Network Name: Mumbai Testnet

  • New RPC URL: https://matic-mumbai.chainstacklabs.com

  • Chain ID: 80001

  • Currency Symbol: MATIC

  • Block Explorer URL: https://mumbai.polygonscan.com/

Click "Save" to add the network.

Step 2: Obtaining Test MATIC Tokens

Now, let's get some test MATIC tokens from the Alchemy faucet.

1. Visit the Alchemy Faucet

Go to the Alchemy Faucet page (link to Alchemy Faucet Page) for Polygon Mumbai and create an account (preferable using Google etc.).

2. Connect Your Wallet

Click on the “Connect Wallet” button to connect your MetaMask wallet. Alternatively, copy and paste your wallet address in the box. You can chose tthe network from the top Navbar.

3. Request Test Tokens

After connecting, you should see an option to request test MATIC tokens. Click on it to receive your tokens.

Wait a few moments, and you should see a confirmation message indicating that the test tokens have been sent to your wallet.

Step 3: Confirming the Test Tokens

1. Check Your MetaMask Wallet

Return to your MetaMask wallet and switch to the Mumbai Testnet network. You should see the test MATIC tokens added to your balance.

2. View on PolygonScan

For additional confirmation, you can view the transaction on the Mumbai PolygonScan. Click on the transaction within MetaMask to open the block explorer and see the details.
