For developers and users experimenting with blockchain applications, using test tokens on testnets like Polygon Mumbai is essential. This guide will walk you through obtaining test MATIC tokens from the Alchemy faucet and adding them to your MetaMask wallet.
Ensure you have MetaMask installed and set up. If not, refer to our MetaMask installation guide.
First, you need to add the Polygon Mumbai test network to your MetaMask wallet.
Open MetaMask and click on the network selection dropdown at the top.
Select "Custom RPC" or "Add Network" at the bottom of the network list.
Fill in the following details for the Polygon Mumbai testnet:
Network Name: Mumbai Testnet
New RPC URL: https://matic-mumbai.chainstacklabs.com
Chain ID: 80001
Currency Symbol: MATIC
Block Explorer URL: https://mumbai.polygonscan.com/
Click "Save" to add the network.
Now, let's get some test MATIC tokens from the Alchemy faucet.
Go to the Alchemy Faucet page (link to Alchemy Faucet Page) for Polygon Mumbai and create an account (preferable using Google etc.).
Click on the “Connect Wallet” button to connect your MetaMask wallet. Alternatively, copy and paste your wallet address in the box. You can chose tthe network from the top Navbar.
After connecting, you should see an option to request test MATIC tokens. Click on it to receive your tokens.
Wait a few moments, and you should see a confirmation message indicating that the test tokens have been sent to your wallet.
Return to your MetaMask wallet and switch to the Mumbai Testnet network. You should see the test MATIC tokens added to your balance.
For additional confirmation, you can view the transaction on the Mumbai PolygonScan. Click on the transaction within MetaMask to open the block explorer and see the details.
You have successfully added the Polygon Mumbai testnet to your MetaMask wallet and received test MATIC tokens from the Alchemy faucet. These tokens allow you to interact with dApps on the Mumbai testnet without using real assets, ideal for development and testing purposes.
Remember, test tokens have no real-world value and are meant for testing purposes only.
Happy experimenting!
